The Power of One

Choose a song that fits one of the following solo performance styles:

Vocal Solo: A song performed by a single singer without instrumental accompaniment (a cappella).

Instrumental Solo: A piece performed on a single instrument with no singing.

Solo Performance: A song performed by a single singer accompanied by only one instrument.

Keep it raw, keep it real, and let the music shine in its simplest form.

.

I’ll be honest, this theme was not as easy as Google made it out to be. I find a perfect song with 1 instrument, only for the buggers to add more instruments halfway in the song. ARGH!

Ah well, I managed to find one from someone who’s becoming an absolute legend. she played this song on a live TV show. Her voice is amazing, and you can feel the passion in the song – wowie! You’ll see what I mean. Hope you enjoy.

Adele is one of my favorite artists ever. My apologies for being a day late. This was really beyond my control.

After watching August Rush, I decided to educate myself on contempory fingerstyle guitar work and I’m in awe of this prodigy’s stuff. For Paul L – it’s a Baton Rouge guitar. And YES, all of the sounds you hear are made on this Guitar … one guitar, one exceptional guitarist.

I don’t know a lot about Melody Gardot apart from her having had a bad accident at age 19 which left her with brain, spinal and internal injuries. She had to learn to walk and talk again and a doctor used music therapy to make this happen.
I love her laid back, jazzy and slightly quirky way of singing.

I found this by chance. I had never heard of her. This is a VERY DIFFERENT version of the song but is, in my opinion, beautiful. She names it her tribute to Roberta Flack.

The artist is Jingxuan, who has more than 1 million YouTube followers.
The instrument is a Guzheng, beautiful long zither from China. The name is Mandarin Chinese for “ancient zither”.
I think it is magnificent to watch – a real spectacle.
And a beautiful sound.

This next song is a truly special rendition of an already incredible classic. Disturbed’s cover of “The Sound of Silence” has always captivated me, and I often wondered if it was the powerful instrumentation or the voice behind it that made it so moving. After hearing this version, stripped down to just the raw power and emotion of the lead singer’s voice, I’m convinced it’s his vocal performance that truly makes this cover extraordinary.

I hope it resonates with you as deeply as it does with me. Enjoy.
