Sunrise, Sunset

Any song about a sunrise or sunset. The word Sunrise or Sunset must appear in the lyrics or title, not the artist’s name.

We will shut down for the Easter Weekend and then resume on the 11th of April.

Geraldine

The sun is starting to set on this beautiful day in Cape Town.
And I say who, who, who, who to you on a beautiful Sunrise for tomorrow by Nora Jones.

Liezel

I found this group by chance and have come to thoroughly enjoy Cigarettes after Sex. Their “chilled out at the end of the day” style, combined with calling a spade a shovel in their lyrics earned them a special spot in my fan list. Enjoy…

Paul

I wanted an upbeat song so I sommer just chose this one the other day. Enjoy the Masters Golf and the chocolates this weekend!!

Lynda

This is a real blast from the past from the movie Fiddler on the Roof, Sunset Sunrise – 1964.

Deborah

Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail made with tequila and orange juice with some grenadine poured on top to create the red and orange colours of a sunrise. However, this song isn’t about one of those.

Tequila Sunrise was one of the first songs that Glenn Frey and Don Henley wrote together, and is about a guy who has been drinking straight tequila until the sun comes up – having fallen for a woman who just wants to use him and move on. (I imagine that must sound dreadful to you single fellas out there.)

Fun fact: Tequila Sunrise was released on 17 April 1973, almost 50 years ago to the day.

Wilfred

Two Suns in the Sunset, the closing track on the album The Final Cut.

The song’s melody emanates both warmth and foreboding, as it poetically intertwines two contrasting emotions.

On the one hand, Two Suns in the Sunset exudes a sense of love and understanding, with its tender harmonies and introspective lyrics, evoking a connection with one’s innermost feelings. It is a celebration of unity, as it embraces the possibility of finding solace and sanctuary within the human spirit.

On the other hand, the song’s ominous undertones are underscored by the chilling imagery of a world on the brink of nuclear catastrophe. Its vivid descriptions of apocalyptic skies and disintegration echo the grave consequences of humanity’s actions. The juxtaposition of beauty and destruction in the lyrics serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the need for empathy and compassion.

Two Suns in the Sunset is a haunting ode to the delicate balance between love and chaos, a ballad that transcends time, urging listeners to reflect on the power of understanding and the potential devastation brought on by unchecked aggression.

Karen

Op wrongvone… it didnt have the required words even though it was about sunrise.

(WG: We are not sure how strong Karen’s meds are, but they are good)

Second part of Karen’s introduction:

“Indian Sunset” is a song written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was released on John’s 1971 album Madman Across the Water.

Errol

I have been under some stress to find a deep and meaningful song that brings out the true beauty and symbolism of both sunrise and sunset. This of course after my songs were taken by other people. I have also had to dig deep to offer a worthwhile introduction that pay homage to the artist and the theme, as done masterfully by the likes of Deborah and Wilfred. But perseverance pays dividends.

Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset, Repeat, was written, performed and produced by the musical genius Luke Bryan in 2018 and follows the style of a prominent local resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Johann Christian Bach. This single movement composition shows astonishing technical command and, understandably, a little individuality. Bryan’s period style and approach suits a work which, like this one, perches on the cusp between the Bluegrass and classical Country eras. Whether or not something warmer-toned would bring out more of the Bluegrass-age musical riches of the ‘My Mamma done gone left me’ masterpiece is a matter for debate. Given the underlying premise, the orchestral arrangement here has a panache and high-speed accuracy whose impressiveness can’t be argued with. More eyebrow-raising is Bryant’s classical and complementary use of visuals in a variety of romantic scenes, complemented by the fluid influence of water to emphasise the changing nature of not only life and love, but also music.

In studio, Bryant performs guitar pieces on a replica 1823 Graf Gutarissimo whose dry tone comes across as artistically constricting. And while his instinct to search out his solo part’s expressive detail by drawing out its phrasing is compelling in itself, it too often feels at cross-purposes with the more tight-reined orchestral accompaniment.

Please take a quiet moment to appreciate the complexity, message, and artistic beauty of my choice tonight.

Chrisna

I don’t have a huge intro about my song choice. Enjoy!

Sue

This song needs no introduction as it speaks for itself.

Zosia

This song written in 1935 by Hugh Williams has been covered by many artists. I am choosing a boogie woogie version. Enjoy.

Richard

Released in 1967 it reached number 25 in the USA. It has been called the prettiest and most uncharacteristic song that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote for the Stones. The string arrangement is courtesy of John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. So sit back with a glass of wine or pop some acid and take a trip back to the psychedelic era. Sunset is in the lyrics.
