Peace

Any song that is about peace. The word peace does not specifically have to appear in the title or lyrics, but the song must obviously be about peace – personal, relationship, feelings, as in with war or conflict, and much more.

Aaronic Benediction | The Blessing in HEBREW and English – Misha Goetz (featuring Marty Goetz)

The Jewish people, have attempted to incorporate peace in their everyday life, or at least have tried to.

The Hebrew word “Shalom” meaning peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquillity and can be used idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye.

Another such conveyance of peace spoken over each other is my choice of song of peace. It is an Aaronic blessing that Jewish people speak over each other as a blessing and encouragement. It is often spoken over each other when they are about to take a leave of absence, or any great celebration, such as marriage, a new baby and even a sad parting such as death.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace” It is also recorded in the bible in Numbers 6:22–27

John Lennon-Imagine

My song tonight is an old classic which has been named one of the best singles ever recorded. It was released in 1971 and John Lennon described it as an ‘ad campaign for Peace’. Enjoy!

Akon – Ain’t No Peace

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”

― Brad Meltzer

My song is just a gentle reminder that tables can be turned, situations can be misread and overreactions based on bias happen.

To bring peace to our silly human race, there is a big effort needed from each and every one of us, every day.
Because there ain’t no peace.

(This song is just on one topic of many that keep us from being at peace with each other)

Yusuf / Cat Stevens – Peace Train (Live at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, 2006)

Shortly after moving to the Cape, Zosia and I attended an open-air Yusaf/Cat Stevens concert at Kirstenbosch.
Apart from his beautiful music he shared details of his private and professional life with the audience. Not only is he an extraordinary musician but a great humanitarian.
Here he is at the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo

Love Is The Only River – Trinity Rose and Ian Sloane

A choice of two songs is what I had for tonight. Then I heard Deborah’s wonderful and meaningful choice about individuals who made a choice to change the world around them. That decided me.

It’s easy, in times like these, to see how desperate the situation is. To focus on it. But, my song tonight reminds me that there is much good, hope, and optimism in the world. And that the future lies in the hands of the youth who, with a little luck, will also change the world around them.

The song is by two young singers, Trinity Rose and Ian Sloane and a group of inspired young artists, the One Love Friends. The song, Love is the Only River, is about peace, hope and unity. I’m hopeful for the future!

Bette Midler – From A Distance

I chose this song because Bette Midler performs it with such deep and almost tearful emotion. She is one of my favourite performing and recording artists and is also a talented actress. The word peace is in the song and we also need to acknowledge the deep significance of the lyrics. Enjoy!!

Lady Gaga – Always Remember Us This Way

You all know how much I loved the movie A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

What a movie. What a story. But more importantly what a performance from them.

If you have not watched it please do.

The movie is about an alcoholic songwriter/singer (Brad) who happens to find an amazing talent (Gaga) singing in a Drag bar as a second job.

They make friends and he keeps trying to convince her she has so much potential. She eventually goes with it. Well, without her knowing lol (you need to watch the movie to understand!)

The point in the movie when this song is played is where he eventually gets her to realise how good she really is. This brings him peace …. and you can see it in his gesture to the crowd when she’s almost finished her song.

To me, he is at peace knowing that he has finally gotten through to her. He is at peace, knowing her road is paved to success. More importantly, what she doesn’t know, is that he is at peace that she will be OK when he …… no I can’t tell you, you’ll have to watch the movie.
