As we near the end of a dreadful year, and it sometimes seems that there is no end in sight as Europe re-enters lockdown and our economy staggers, just sometimes I feel a little weary. It’s a feeling that is beautifully described in the words of Michael Rosenberg, a solo artist who still performs under the name of his original group, Passenger. In his song, he says ‘I’m getting old and tired of chasing setting suns’. It’s set in a place you may recognise. Listen carefully to the words and enjoy. It’s is one of my favourite quiet time songs.

In 2012 I attended a conference for retired field-marshalls in Budapest. A group of us took time out to attend a Caro Emerald concert. Our VIP seats were on an elevated platform suspended from an enormous crane. It was a memorable occasion. Many years ago (just over 20 to be precise 😜) a very wise friend told me you can’t love someone else fully and can’t BE loved fully until you love yourself in a self-nurturing way. You have to be whole to have a healthy relationship as you can never fill the hole in someone else’s heart and vice versa.
I was reminded of this in a discussion with a friend this week – it takes two whole people to have a healthy relationship.

Shirley Bassey – I Owe It All To You
The great Shirley Bassey is the first female singer to record songs over a 70-year career. She began performing at the age of 13 and had her first hit at 19. Her list of hits creates memories for me and who can forget her amazing sequined outfits. She is a great Welsh singer and a true icon of the entertainment world.
This is her 2020 release to celebrate her epic career. It is amazing to hear how strong her wonderful voice still is at the age of 83. I hope you enjoy: ” I owe it all to you”

I love the Buddha-Bar collection. The songs are mostly covers, edits, and remixes. They work well for me when I am working or as background music at a dinner party.

Dealing with the dreaded virus and the ongoing saga with Trump, Zondo, and Zuma left me feeling a little gloomy, and then I discovered this version of an old classic by Ralph McTell with the Crisis choir. In a strange way, it made me feel good again. Hope it has the same effect on you.
