Heaven or Hell
Any song from any decade or genre that is about heaven or hell, whether that be in the title, lyrics or in the story of the song eg. someone trapped in a situation that’s hell, or living a heavenly life. Having heaven or hell in the artist or band’s name doesn’t count. Have fun!

Meat Loaf – Heaven Can Wait – Very Rare Video
The 1st song that came to my mind when Errol sent the new theme through, was Bat out of Hell by Meatloaf, but then remembered Heaven Can Wait, which was released in 1977 on his Bat out of Hell album. Enjoy!

Halfway To Heaven: Céline Dion feat Kenny G
The original song Halfway to Heaven” is a song written and performed by Harry Chapin. The song was included, but not released as a single, on his 1974 album, Verities and Balderdash.
The song was inspired when Harry arrived at a train station and his wife, Sandra Chapin, was late picking him up. He started talking with a man who, as the conversation continued, started confiding in him about his personal life. The conversation was about sexual morality and how getting older, and seeing new generations of women, changes how a person was raised on sexual beliefs. And that the world is accepting, what it once would not allow.
The song is based on that conversation while at a train station about sexual morality. This version is sung by Celine…..

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Live
Just to make sure the theme is complete, I chose the most famous rock song of all time. How can we have heaven without a stairway?

Ed Sheeran – Visiting Hours (LIVE from the Michael Gudinski State Memorial)
My song today I chose it because that is how I feel at the moment. I believe many of us feel this way some days. He wrote the song for Michael Gudinski’s funeral 24th March 2021. Enjoy 😢 we all need a tear now and then

Thank Heaven for Little Girls from the movie: Gigi – Maurice Chevalier
My music choice is probably best described as Franco-alternative and has a melody you could be humming till tomorrow morning. It poses an interesting question that no little boy would dare answer

Jackson Browne – The Barricades of Heaven (performance)
I wanted to do a “hell” song until I came across “Barricades to Heaven” by Jackson Browne. Always enjoyed his songs and I hope you enjoy this one

Fred Astaire – Cheek to Cheek
This has been a long, stressful and emotional week., and I don’t want any of it back soon.
So what better to think of than the heaven the women in our lives create for us?
My song is a fine example of a man singing about that heaven to his beloved. This song was written in 1935 by Irving Berlin for the movie of the same year, Top Hat. In it, Fred Astaire dances cheek to cheek with Ginger Rodgers while he sings to her I’m in heaven.
The song spent 5 weeks at No 1 and was named the No 1 song of 1935.
Ladies, a toast to you!

Total Eclipse of the Heart Literal Video Version – PersephoneMaewyn
Hell on earth…..
Long before singer Bonnie Tyler had a hit single with “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” songwriter Jim Steinman was already using the phrase “turn around bright eyes” in a song from his 1969 musical, “The Dream Engine.”
Then, according to singer Meat Loaf, the song was slated to appear on his 1983 album, “Midnight at the Lost and Found,” but he couldn’t get his record company to pay for Steinman’s lyrics. The song was then passed along to Tyler, whose raspy vocals contributed to the song’s success, hitting #1 on music charts worldwide.
Once upon a time, I was falling in love, but now I’m only falling apart
There’s nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart
The song was inspired by the relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff in the novel, “Wuthering Heights.” While they shared an intense, passionate love for each other, their relationship was also toxic and destructive.
And so it is in “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The singer is afraid to have her lover in her life, yet terrified at the thought he might leave. When they’re together, their relationship is explosive, but when they’re apart, the singer can find no light in her life. The lyrics clearly show just how torn the singer is.
Her life was a living hell for her, hence the reason I chose this song. Enjoy (or get depressed, your choice 😉 )

Squirrel Nut Zippers – “Hell”
The Squirrel Nut Zippers cloaked raucous rock in fast-and-loose hot jazz arrangements. They released “Hell” in 1996.
If I am going anywhere after this round then I’d like to apply for Club Inferno; where the boys are pretty, their outfits outrageous and their makeup on point.

Vineyard Worship feat. Samuel Lane
Given the events in our country this week, this song resonates with me, not to be afraid because the Lord our God protects and saves … heaven’s door is open to us
