Carrie Underwood – Good Girl
When I started dating Chrisna, she was already a big fan of TV talent shows – in particular American Idol. I’m soooo grateful for it! Over the years, talent discoveries from these shows have amazed and delighted me, driven me to tears, cheers, and unbridled enjoyment. The first series I remember well was Season 4 in 2005. The winner was a very attractive young blonde country and western singer, who went on to become one of America’s most successful and popular singers ever. Her accolades include seven Grammy Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, 15 American Music Awards to name but a few. Here is Carrie Underwood with her 2012 hit, Good Girl. I’m a fan!

Sawyer Fredericks – Should’ve Known Better
My song today is by an artist that won The Voice in Season 8. He chose Pharrell Williams as his coach. He set serious iTunes records and became the youngest winner in the history of the competition. He was just 16 at the time. Enjoy.🎤

Daughtry – It’s Not Over
Christopher Adam Daughtry is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He is known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the rock band Daughtry, which he formed after placing fourth on the fifth season of American Idol. Released by RCA Records, Daughtry’s self-titled debut album became the fastest-selling debut rock album in Nielsen SoundScan history, selling more than one million copies after five weeks of release. The album was recorded before the band was officially formed, making him the only official member present on the album.

Gareth Gates – With you all the time
Gareth Gates was the runner-up to Will Young on the first Idols UK in 2002. I think he should have won. He went on to record some great songs and took his singing career to a whole new level.
He stammers when speaking but his singing does not reveal this at all as the words are learned and not unrehearsed.
His version of “Unchained Melody” is, according to many knowledgeable critics, the best recording ever produced. However, as we have heard it before, I have chosen:” With You All The Time” Enjoy!!

Paul Potts – Send in the Clowns – Live recording in Prague
Hope this meets the criteria for the theme. Something a bit different.

Dusty Road by Michael Ketterer
I was about to share a song of a new artist I’ve been listening to, which I was surprised to find out that he was discovered on X-Factor. But yesterday, after Deborah’s awesome Mahogany session, I immediately remembered another talent that was found by many on America’s Got Talent. I found Michael Ketterer in 2011, way before America’s Got Talent found him. It was at a point when I was so over religion and was searching for the true meaning of it all. I hated what the churches had made God out to be, this big man with a big stick, who made us one way and gave us a set of opposite rules. I didn’t understand how I had deserved such a tough life: murdered father, broken child and psycho husband when I was a good person who obeyed all the rules. So I rejected God, stopped being a “good girl” and searched for a higher power, the universe, inner chi, and wound my way back to finding out who He really was. I was drawn by His love, not wrath. By His goodness and my perspective changed through a key book called The Shack and other precious enlightening writings, people and moments that came my way. It was in searching these deep things and letting go of everything I’d been taught and searching for true meaning that I came across Michael. His deep lyrics spoke to the intimate place I have now found in my relationship with God and how I have come to really know Him. It’s a beautiful journey that has healed so much of my pain of the past and brought me into a place of sweet surrender and faith and has become the core of who I am. I still love Michael’s incredible voice and his desire to know a God that is so much bigger than our minds can contain.

Man of Constant Sorrow Sawyer Fredericks July 7, 2018
If you appreciate traditional country music here’s a young voice with an interesting variation on a classic by the Soggy Bottom Boys (oh brother where art thou). Since his success at The Voice, he seems to be going places. Good luck to him.

Alanis Morissette Updates ‘Ironic’ Lyrics
I chose someone well known for this round. It was interesting to see that so many artists actually started out from a talent show of sorts.
Alanis Morissette is another singer who defined the ’90s. She made her first public appearance in the talent show Rising Star Talent Competition in Canada when she was 13 years old. After that, she decided to give Star Search a chance, and she was one of the contestants in 1990 when she was 16 years old. After that, her career took off, and she became an award-winning artist and has released eight albums up to today.
