Counting Crows – Big Yellow Taxi ft. Vanessa Carlton
Written and recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970, Big Yellow Taxi is a song about how we take things for granted, and how we miss them when they are gone. This jolly version by the Counting Crows.

A White Sport Coat and A Pink Carnation by Marty Robbins (1957)
I think you already know my Dad’s father was a tailor. So, in his young years, my dad was a snappy dresser, often with a blazer or jacket. He loved this song and often sang it to me when I was little. He left too soon and I miss him. Tonight, Dad’s song – A White Sports Coat and a Pink Carnation by Marty Robbins.

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl
My song today was originally called “Brown Skinned Girl”, and was about an interracial relationship. Morrison changed it to “Brown Eyed Girl” to make it more palatable for radio stations. Some stations banned it anyway for the line, “Making love in the green grass.”

Neil Young – Heart of Gold (Live at Farm Aid 1985)
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the farm aid concerts to raise funds to keep families on the land – we may soon be needing them here. Here is a Neil Young classic from way back.

Enya – Caribbean Blue
“CARRIBEAN BLUE” by Enya released in 1991. On the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks, it was the 12th most successful song of 1992.
Enjoy the gentle tones from this Irish musician and the stunning visuals. The visuals are based on the paintings of Maxfield Parrish. The song is in waltz time so dance away in your living room while listening to the angelic vocals.

Tina Turner – Golden Eye
Even though I’ve always enjoyed the famous songs by Tina Turner when I got free tickets to see her concert I was like “Sure, I don’t have any plans, so why not?”
Little did know that this would be one of the best concerts I’d see live, nor the impression it would leave etched in my memory bank. Her energy was electric. She had three sets of dancers, but she never stopped once! What a pair of legs!
I really enjoyed this song when the movie came out, but to see it in concert was an absolute treat! She was lowered from above and came out in the sexy number in the music video, stepping out of a camera lens! It was really exquisite to watch!

Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale, live in Denmark 2006
I am going with the first song that came into my head. In 1967 it was known as progressive rock. This concert was performed in 2006. Enjoy

Griff – Black Hole
They are renovating the flat next door to me, what a noisy business. Anyway, earphones on and some random music from Apple completes the distraction.
So up comes this song. It is all about the importance of being distracted and staying busy after a breakup or a failed relationship.
I am sort of wishing I could break up with the renovators.
Griff is a new artist for me. I enjoyed this song and her style. Hope you do too.

Chris De Burgh – Lady In Red

Coldplay – Yellow (Live in Madrid 2011)
This song was released in 2000 by Coldplay. Lyrics by Chris Martin, the lead singer.

Dido – White Flag (Live at Brixton Academy)
In battle, a white flag signals surrender. By stating there will be “No white flag,” Dido indicates she will not give up on the relationship. The term “Shipping” (Dido lyric: “I will go down with this ship”) can also refer to fan fiction, where fans create relationships (thus the “ship”) between characters that they hope will happen.
Dido’s song is based on reality, however. It is about her split with her boyfriend Bob Page, who is the guy she wrote the song “Thank You” about. They were engaged but split up in 2002.
Dido wrote this with Rick Nowels.
This won the award for Best Single at the 2004 Brit Awards. This is Dido’s biggest hit.
A Neo-Nazi website misinterpreted the meaning of this song to be about white supremacy and used it as their theme tune. When she heard about this, Dido was disgusted that her music was been used to promote racial hatred and successfully had the website closed down.

Michael Jackson – Black or White
My song was a hard one. So many choices, so many great songs played. I wondered whether to go for glory (votes), or rather for an oldie, a feel-good song, nostalgic choice, or whatever. But in the end its always good to be oneself.
And I don’t quite feel myself so I went for a music choice which included an interesting video production.
I’ve played his Thriller song before.
Here is another from this legend – Red River Valley
Sorry! Yellow Rose of Texas
