Bloom & Swoon
“In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.”
— Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Tennyson had a point. Something happens out there in September. The world goes green, everything starts pushing up out of the ground, and people start behaving strangely.
So this month we’re taking both halves of that. The blooming, and the swooning.
Bloom
A song about something beginning — new life, a new chapter, waking up, starting over, or the world turning green again.
Growth, fresh starts, second chances, the first properly warm day. Rebirth, renewal, coming out of a long winter. Anything that feels like coming back to life.
Swoon
A song about being utterly smitten — the first flush, the head-over-heels, the one that makes you go weak at the knees.
Love at first sight. A hopeless crush. Butterflies, racing hearts, sleepless nights. The grand gesture, the serenade, the making-a-complete-fool-of-yourself. Longing from a distance, or finally working up the nerve. Puppy love, teenage obsession, or the one you never quite stopped thinking about.
Not the long, comfortable, settled kind of love. The giddy kind. The kind Tennyson’s young man was clearly suffering from.
Spring’s here. Let’s see what it does to you.
