You each get your own theme. Choose a song that matches the theme or subject matter.

Note:
• The words do not have to be in the title or lyrics, but as long as the meaning (or reason) behind the song, is about that set of words.
Share some info about the song and if you want, why you chose the song, etc.

NOTE
• the words I selected are only examples of the actual subject or theme you have to choose from. As long as your song follows the “subject”, then all good.

Passion / Lust / Desire / Hubba Hubba
Annie Lennox – I Put A Spell On You (Live)

My first choice was ” girl you’ll be a woman soon” . Then I thought of dancing moves filled with passion and lust “dirty dancing – do you love me” and the tango from “scent of a woman” . All good until I came across this song which I believe is from “fifty shades of grey”. Enjoy

I have played with my”words” a bit. The song I have chosen is an oldie with a few covers. The song tells the truth( Honesty) and the girl on question appears to be anything BUT Moral. This version is sung acapella with great Honour to the original and with high (musical) Principles. Enjoy.

Saigon” is Billy’s epic about the Vietnam War experience. Although one might consider it a political song, it is actually a personal, intimate song, about the people who fought in the war and the camaraderie and tragedy they shared.

My song really makes me think about :
Adventure
Curiosity
Experience
And quest
The Portugal trip Johann and I experienced was so much, adventure, and curiosity about other countries. This is a trip I will never forget. It was planned with absolute detail and so much adventure.
My song is : Jungle is an adventure

“Wake Up Everybody” by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes is a soulful anthem calling for awareness, empowerment, and collective action against ignorance and complacency.

It speaks of the importance of unity and solidarity in working towards a more equitable and just society.

Teddy Pendergrass’s voice is beautiful and I love the message, the classic R&B vibes, the matching pale blue suits and frilly shirts.

Some progress has been made since the song was first recorded in 1975, but we still have work to do.

“No more backward thinkin’ time for thinkin ahead”

This beautiful song is by Thompson Square, an American country music duo composed of husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson, who alternate as vocalists. I love the musicality of it, the beautiful black and white setting, and of course, the reality of the lyrics.

The song is titled ‘Glass’ and is about the fragility of relationships and the persistence, perseverance, required to make them last. The lyrics go:

Trying to live and love,
With a heart that can’t be broken,
Is like trying to see the light with eyes that can’t be opened.
Yeah, we both carry baggage,
We picked up on our way, so if you love me do it gently,
And I will do the same.

We may shine, we may shatter,
We may be picking up the pieces here on after,
We are fragile, we are human,
We are shaped by the light we let through us,
We break fast, cause we are glass.

There are varying opinions about the song, you can choose which one suits your taste.

“… The lyrics of “Waiting for a girl like you” express the narrator’s search for a deep and meaningful connection with someone special. The verses convey the narrator’s anticipation and impatience in finding this person, while the chorus emphasizes their hope in finding a love that will endure.

The opening lines, “So long, I’ve been lookin’ too hard, I’ve been waiting too long,” perfectly capture the longing and yearning aspect of the song. It speaks to how love is often elusive and requires patience. The narrator acknowledges their uncertainty but remains optimistic, believing that it is only a matter of time before they find the right person…”

Patience eventually got him the girl, which is one of the reasons this song was apparently written …

Plus I just love this band’s music ❤️

The song says it all! Enjoy.

My theme is Friendship/Companionship/Brotherhood/Kindness. Many of the usual suspects could have been used, and I was even tempted to use “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother” with a Rambo backdrop. But nah … For me it’s hard to think of Robin Hood without his trusted companion Little John.

This song comes from one of my very special childhood favorites. This animated movie highlights friendship, companionship, kindness (stealing from the rich to give to the poor) and a bunch of awesome humour. The brotherhood part? Well that would be the many, many times my little brother and I sat watching this “video tape” together, which facilitated us not “donnering” each other for a couple of hours.

“The Unforgiven” by Metallica is a deeply personal and introspective song that delves into themes of alienation, regret, and the struggle for personal freedom. James Hetfield, the band’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, has explained that the song is about his own experiences of living a life trying to please others and not being true to himself, leading to feelings of alienation and regret 3. The lyrics convey a sense of never being able to break free from the expectations of others and the resulting internal conflict. The song is a powerful exploration of the emotional turmoil and the consequences of not being true to oneself. The phrase “The Unforgiven” reflects the inability to forgive oneself for the choices made and the life lived, capturing the profound sense of regret and the desire for personal redemption.

Lyrics:

“The Unforgiven”

New blood joins this earth,
And quickly he’s subdued.
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules.

With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he’s known
A vow unto his own,
That never from this day
His will they’ll take away.

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won’t see what might have been.

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his.
He tries to please them all –
This bitter man he is.

Throughout his life the same –
He’s battled constantly.
This fight he cannot win –
A tired man they see no longer cares.

The old man then prepares
To die regretfully –
That old man here is me.

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won’t see what might have been.

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

[Solo]

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won’t see what might have been.

What I’ve felt,
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

You labelled me,
I’ll label you.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

You labelled me,
I’ll label you.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

I really believe that there is good in everybody, being positive and in always finding a solution. Fixing the wrongs, relationships, misunderstandings etc. Making life better is not an act – it is a way of life.

This song deals with helping someone in their time of need. Coldplay’s Chris Martin was reluctant to admit it when the song came out in 2006, he originally wrote “Fix You” at least in part to comfort his then-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, after the death of her father, Bruce Paltrow

A short positive verse from the song:
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Chris Martin thanks their audience, friends and family for their support during this return show after covid.

This is a beautiful version of this song by Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.

Next time you experience that ‘down in the dumps’ feeling my recommended antidote would be to sit back and watch a good feel movie. My favourite is ‘Slumdog millionaire’ where a ragamuffin by pure chance and good luck wins a TV quiz contest to become a millionaire. In addition to this he traces his childhood sweetheart and they end up having a celebratory dance with a flash mob at the local train station. Those of you who understand Gujurati will pick up the words, luck, good fortune, success and prosperity in the second verse.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens wrote “Peace Train” as a call for unity and understanding on his storied Teaser and the Firecat album of 1971 and it became his first US Top 10 hit. On the new version, he’s seen singing and playing an elegant white piano in a tranquil open air setting in Istanbul, Turkey.

With all the Wars in the world, we can certainly do with some unity, hope and peace.

My initial choice was Give me hope Johanna, by Eddie Grant but this caught my ear so I changed my mind, as ladies are prone to do.

“Thunder” by Imagine Dragons is about the underdog turned authoritative force of nature. This dude stepped out of the shadows, wielding the power of a storm, and every beat drops confirming his power. It’s a musical declaration of, “Watch me conquer,” transforming from the unnoticed to the undeniable ruler.
It is also a really fun song. Hope you enjoy the exit anthem.
