It is Written

Any song, in any genre, about writing, about books, or about famous literary characters. (In the lyrics, not the name of the artist).

The Box Tops – The Letter (Upbeat 1967)

This was the first song that came to mind when the new theme came through! It’s an old song but brings back many memories – enjoy!

For those of you who saw the wonderful movie American Graffiti, you may remember another ‘before your time youngster’ song, Who wrote the book of love. Enjoy!

The movie is about events in 1962. Check the photo of a very young Harrison Ford, later to become the famous Han Solo of Star Wars fame.

Karen

The story of her life is written in the lines on her face…..

Geraldine

James Blunt – Postcards

I have a great selection of songs for this theme.

Arno

Sting wrote this song about famed gay author Quentin Crisp and his experiences as an outcast. Crisp moved from London to New York in 1986, and Sting spent several days with the author.
This was released as a single in 1988, reaching #51 in the UK. In 1990, a remix by Dutch producer Ben Liebrand was released as a single and hit #15.
David Fincher directed the video, in which Quentin Crisp appeared. Fincher has directed videos by Madonna, Paula Abdul and The Wallflowers, as well as the movies Seven, The Game and Fight Club.
Branford Marsalis played sax on this track.

So my song was written for a literary character. .. on a wall, it may seem?

Wuthering Heights is an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë, initially published under her pen name Ellis Bell. It concerns two families of the landed gentry living on the West Yorkshire moors, the Earnshaws and the Lintons, and their turbulent relationships with Earnshaw’s foster son, Heathcliff.

This has to be one of the most well-known literary songs ever written. Kate Bush was only nineteen in 1978 when it made her the first UK woman to have a number one hit with a self-penned song.

Sung from the point of view of Cathy’s ghost, the spirit of a woman compelled to wander the moors until she can be reunited with the soul of her earthbound lover, the song evokes superbly the mood of Emily Brontë’s nineteenth-century novel of the same name.

Sue

Nights in White Satin The Moody Blues in Paris.
Letters I’ve written mentioned in the lyrics.
It is,a tale of unrequited love by Justin Hayward. Based on the gift of satin bedsheets from his girlfriend.
Beautiful visuals and musical sound. Enjoy.

Chrisna

My song today is by an artist that I am not familiar with. She is an American songwriter and I stumbled upon this video in my search for a suitable song for this theme.

Deborah

Anna Karenina is widely considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written. Russian author Leo Tolstoy published the novel in 1878.

I present “A bad feeling about Anna Karenina” by Phoebe Kreutz.

How can we have so many written things, but nobody writes the songs we listen to?
Here is the dude that does all that.
