Trains and Rail Transport
There must be a link either in the song title or the lyrics with travel by rail, whether it be a tram or a train.
The association may not be with the artist or band but may include railway stations and railway workers.

Vince Gill – I Don’t Wanna Ride The Rails No More (Lyric Video)
Nothing better than a man finally admitting all he needs for a full and happy life is a woman’s love. And if that’s in a song with trains and rails, my work here is done.
The artist is Vince Gill. He has recorded more than 20 studio albums, charted over 40 singles, and has sold more than 26 million albums. He has received 18 Country Music Association Awards and earned 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other male country music artist.
BEST OF ALL: In 2017, Vince Gill was hired by the Eagles in place of the late, great, one and only Glenn Frey.
I do like his music. Quite a lot. For sure.

Sam Smith – Midnight Train (Live At Austin City Limits)
My station is full of various music trains. However, the station keys were missing.
Apologies for the delay. Enjoy sexy Sam Smith

Yuksek – On A Train
As a child, trains were my only form of public transport. The visuals in this song bring back a whole spectrum of memories.
The movement of the passengers, the ticket collector and the visuals out of the window are so real to me.
Neither the group nor the song is familiar to me but I thought it would be something different.
Enjoy!

Hugh Masekela – Stimela
My song is by the Legendary Hugh Masekela. One of my favourites, Stimela really speaks to our heritage as South Africans, some of what our black rainbow nation people went through in the earlier days. We’re so blessed we have matured since then, and this is evident in us standing together arm in arm fighting injustice as law-abiding citizens did last week. This song still makes me sad, but I find it simply beautiful. Enjoy

“City Of New Orleans”- Arlo Guthrie
I first bumped into Arno Guthrie at Woodstock back in 69. Like his old man, he was heavy into protest songs and singing about social injustice. I suggested he might try something different and told him to get hold of Steve Goodman. The result was amazing – a truly American song dedicated to long-distance train travel. Arno is now retired but still raises funds to feed the victims and families of communicable diseases

Chris De Burgh – Spanish Train
This was a very controversial album that was banned in SA for many years (1976), considered to be blasphemous. The song I chose has the same name as the album.

Elton John – This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore
My song choice finds Elton John in a reflective mood, looking back on his past glories and thinking about how he feels now.
Using a railroad metaphor, he sings about how he used to be a huge star (“the main express”), but now he’s done with those days (“this train don’t stop there anymore”).
Justin Timberlake plays a Yellow Brick Road-era Elton, complete with receding hair line, gap-toothed dentures, and rose-tinted glasses, lip-syncing John’s disillusioned, confessional lyrics while going through the rockstar motions.

SHOSHOLOZA WORLD CUP 2010 AT MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM
The soccer world cup in 2010 brought out the South African gees. We also was the year a few of is organised a Toastmasters conference called Laduma…. such wonderful memories from that year.

The Doobie Brothers – Long Train Running
I chose this song because when I heard it, I thought about Richard and Zosia. I can just see them boogie 💃
Sarah
Soul Asylum – Runaway Train
My choice brings back memories of going to a house party in Cape Town at the age of 15! 🤣
Such a rebel!
There was a live band and they dedicated this song to my friend and me.
We felt so special.
(Of course, they were guys just flirting with us but we were oblivious to this 🙈)

Boogie Woogie # Choo Choo Train
I was torn between 2 choices. I. Definitely keeping my other choice as a bonus song for this round, after everyone has had their turn.
That song was done before my Daddy was even thought of.
This song I’m going with is a bit more recent (not by much lol) but I liked it. I watched another couple dance fervently to the same song and I almost had heart failure watching them for 3 minutes, they went absolutely nuts. They were as fit as hell.
So I chose a slightly slower version.
Enjoy the twisting …
Like this one I mentioned yesterday of heart rate above 200bpm. Luckily it’s not a train theme. But yoh …. how fit must they be to not miss a beat at that tempo.

Land Of Hope And Dreams – Bruce Springsteen (Wrecking Ball)
Richard and I went to the Bruce Springsteen concert in Johannesburg. The one song that stood out for me was THIS TRAIN. The song is actually LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS. Bruce also sang the song at Biden’s inauguration. Enjoy this version.
This version was dedicated to the saxophonist Clarens Clemons who passed away in 2011

Gé Korsten – Funiculi funicula
A very well known song, I had a hard time choosing which version to present to my esteemed friends. Because of yesterday’s song, and in honour of Wilfred and Karen… I give you… Gé Korsten from the 1967 movie “Hear my Song”.
– A funicular (/fjuːˈnɪkjʊlər/, /f(j)ʊ-/, /fə-/)[1] is a form of cable railway which connects points along a railway laid on a steep slope.-

Rod Stewart – Downtown Train
My song today was written and recorded by Tom Waits in 1985. I prefer this version by Rod Steward. Enjoy!
