Housework
It appears that music and housework go together like, well, laundry and ironing. One website has ‘collated a list of 50,000 songs that have a reference to housework in their titles’! Your theme assignment is to 1) find any piece of music that references housework, OR 2) any piece of music that is good to listen to while doing housework (and yes, you can search for just that on Google).

Miranda Lambert – It All Comes Out in the Wash

Fats Waller – Spring Cleaning
Just for a bit of a giggle, this is my choice. It is Fats Waller singing “Spring Cleaning”
Karen
Carrie Underwood – Dirty Laundry
Not the Don Henley song of the same title, this is a tale of a man whose cheating ways are uncovered after his woman finds lipstick and wine stains on his clothes. The cut was penned by regular Underwood collaborators Hillary Lindsey and Ashley Gorley as well as Sam Hunt’s main songwriting wingman Zach Crowell.
The track was produced by Jay Joyce (Little Big Town, Eric Church), one of six he helmed for Storyteller. It was the first time that Underwood had worked with Joyce, who crafted an edgier sound than the country star’s previous material. “I want to grow, and I want to change, and I want my music to reflect that,” Underwood said, “and I felt like I just needed things to switch up a little bit in order to achieve that.”
Underwood is singing in character in this one. She married the professional hockey player Mike Fisher in 2010 but has plenty of previous relationships on which to draw from when she needs to get into the mind of a woman with a deceitful beau.

Neil Young – A Man Needs A Maid (Live at the BBC 1971)
Never really rated Neil as a great singer but his songwriting was sometimes controversial but amazing. This song was released in Feb 1972 off his wonderful album ‘Heart of Gold’
Arno
Mitski – Washing Machine Heart

The Killers – Mr. Brightside
The Killers’ Mr Brightside is about Brandon Flowers’ jealousy and paranoia when he walked into a bar and found his girlfriend with another man. What better track to listen to while beating the old Persians.
This music video was made in 2004 for the song’s re-release, and is based on the film Moulin Rouge!
Mr Brightside was ranked the 48th best song of the 21st century by Rolling Stone.

Van Morrison – Cleaning Windows The Midem France 1984
I really admire Van Morrison’s versatility. One minute he is dancing on the moon and then he is washing windows.
Wilfred
Massive Attack – Angel
Going with option two on the brief:
Running away from your fears, the longer you run away from them, the greater they become. You will reach a point where you can no longer run. There they are, standing right in front of you… and then you realize, your fears are just an illusion. You confront them head-on, they are frightened of you.
This sums up my relationship with housework.
This song is dedicated to my housekeeper, she is my power to confront my fears, she is my angel.
Liezel
Shakira – La Tortura (Video) ft. Alejandro Sanz
This song brings back some great memories of my early days as a “re-singled” person. I used to keep Monday nights as my house-cleaning night and after dropping Jay off at his father’s place by 18:30, I would return home and go all out to get my little townhouse cleaned from top to bottom. Being a MONDAY, after work, after Jay’s therapy and after generally a looooong weekend of having a difficult little boy that required a lot of attention constantly, it took some serious grit to tackle the housework.
I find there’s nothing like some great music to make the work go faster. So I would pump the tunes and do some “dancing with the mop and broom” in between. What turned out to be my favourite CD for this was Shakira’s Oral Fixation album – perfect tempo, hips that didn’t lie etc. etc.
This song was the last on the album, and by the time I got to this point, it was normally close to finishing up the chores. The final reward for finishing my chores on a Monday night was a chance to dance this last song away and have enough time to tune in to SABC for Desperate Housewives, which became a guilty, fun pleasure.

Queen – I Want to Break Free
This piece of music has a beat to keep you vacuuming, dusting and sweeping as the video shows. Enjoy

Armin van Buuren live at A State Of Trance 900 Wild WIld Son (Richard Durand remix)
Sorry guys. My song might be a bit late.
I’m busy with chores.
Now this song I’m playing is one of the songs that this artist plays at one of his own events. This guy is absolutely amazing. Most of you will know him.
Now a funny story is Liezel and I both love this music and this artist. We found this live-recorded show and loved it so much! So I downloaded an app where we could connect 2 Bluetooth headphones at the same time, and the one night in her apartment, we had a “silent disco” and jammed to this mix. The funny part came when the nurse came out and wondered what in the world was going on! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry ……. just got to drill 4 more small holes ….. almost done

If I Had A Hammer – Trini Lopez & André Rieu
There is one type of housework not yet mentioned – the delightful task of maintenance. One way or another, hammers are useful while doing this. So here’s Trini Lopez singing ‘if I had a hammer” in 2020, 59 years after we first got to love this song in 1963. Enjoy!
